IBS – Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome commonly referred to as IBS, is a widespread and chronic gastrointestinal disorder the cause of which is unknown and it is classified as a functional bowel disorder.

Up to one in five people in the UK develops IBS at some stage in their life. Hypnotherapy for IBS has been medically proven to be effective in helping many people to reduce their IBS symptoms of pain and discomfort. Dr Peter Whorwell in Manchester has developed a gut directed protocol. This involves inducting the hypnotic state and offering specific suggestions for improved gut functioning (Whorwell et al. 1984).

I offer a Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy approach to IBS which will include: relaxation and self hypnosis, cognitive restructuring, gut directed hypnotherapy and cognitive and behaviour therapy.

The IBS approach will include empowering clients to develop and implement increasingly more effective ways of coping with IBS in order to improve their quality of life. I offer a six session programme to start with for IBS.

It’s a good idea always to do something relaxing prior to making an important decision in your life.
